And then suddenly, as if out of nowhere……

Wayne came down hard. We could see his wobbles for about twenty metres and found him lying next to his bike. He was winded, had sand in every orifice and did not look happy.

We helped him up cleaned sand off his face and he got going again. Only to come down again a couple of hundred metres further.

Luckily there was a doctor at hand to check if his dentures is in place after the fall!! ;)
Eish that rode has become really sandy after it has become a very popular 4x4 route. In the 90's I could do from Brand se Baai to Groenriviermond with one hand on my XL500S until Sparks Esterhuizen got permission to use it from De Beers. His groups was some times up to 30+ vehicles!!!

Wayne got going again……

And came down again a few hundred metres further. He had had enough. [member=10935]BuRP[/member] also lost his sense of humor and they decided to turn back and go to Hondeklipbaai via Gharies. [member=8876]2StrokeDan[/member] rode with them to make sure they were OK.

From here the pace picked up but we were racing against time to make it to the West Coast reserve gate where the real sand was waiting

The 890 Rally proved to be an absolute beast in sand on this whole trip. The MotoZ rear would launch it out of the sand with a quick twist of the throttle and from the it was just a matter of getting on the pegs and holding on.

Once again we struggled to adhere to speed limits

We arrived at the Park entrance at 4:05 and were refused entrance. No amount of begging, swearing or crying could convince the officials otherwise. We were very disappointed, but Amsterdam assured us the would be plenty more sand on the trip to more than make up for us missing this part of the ride.
