It has been agreed with MSA to run a National VMX Challenge series on the same weekends as the National Motocross Series. Four events are planned, the first event will be Port Elizabeth on Saturday 11 April 2009, and the final event will be in Clarence (unfortunately the same weekend as the Sun City leg of the Nationals)
The first of the National Challenge series will be on Saturday the 11 April 2009. Rover M\C club will be hosting the first VMX National Challenge event in Port Elizabeth.
The Vintage motocross event takes place on the same day as the Junior Nationals. The racing will consist of 3 classes, Pre 75, pre 80 and pre 88. Eligibility per class requires that an entrant can enter any bike built before the cut off date. Any competitor can ride up a class; this in effect means that a 1973 Honda will be eligible to ride the pre 75 and pre 80 classes. Likewise a 1976 Suzuki RM 370 can be raced in the pre 1980 and pre 1988 classes. Each class will do 2 races on the day of 12min +1 lap.
All racing will be on the main track and the track will be designed accordingly for Vintage Motocross bikes. Rob Wicks is assisting with the track design and will run on a slightly shortened track and will cut out most of the deep sand sections. It must also be noted that on the day that the track will be freshly graded and just perfect for big bore 2t bikes. Starting will be from behind a proper start gate and the start straight is a good 300m leading into a wide sweeping turn.
On Friday 10 April the club house will be open all day for documentation.
All racing will be held under the auspices of MSA and all competitors are required to hold a minimum of a club class MX license. Competitors will be required to obtain a racing license prior to coming to Port Elizabeth. All competitors are encouraged to ride more than one class and the entry fee has been set at R300 WITH NO ADDITIONAL COSTS incurred to ride more than one class.
