As you know, Amageza regulations this year require 2 or 3 litres of water fixed permanently to the bike in a hard container. By far the most sensible place to put this is on the baseplate, and the right way to do it is to use a proven rally solution, not some hicked together home solution put together in a back yard (as much as I love pooratech ingenuity).
RS Concept are a proven rally provider: https://www.rsconcept.net/index.php?lg=en / https://www.facebook.com/rsconcept.net and they had 6 bikes this year and 5 bikes last year on the Dakar, so they know what they're doing and the kit is properly tested.
They make a carbon-kevlar baseplate with build in 1litre water container, and a tool box, which you can put a camelback bladder inside and carry a total of 2-3 litres (or put your tools there if org retracts and only insists on 1litre of water. Carbon-kevlar is lighter than aluminium, doesn't make a noisy racket or vibrate loose, and can be fixed with resin and fibre if you need to. I think it's the business, and therefore...
I've spoken to Julien at RS Concept about a group buy of baseplates. They are 550 euros on the site - which is over R8k with VAT before shipping or any customs fees - so more than R9k if you order on your own. If I get an order of 10 plates together, I think I can land them all in for R7k. I know there will be a lot of fuel injected KTM/Huskies on Amageza this year (that's all the 2012-2015 bikes) so there should be a lot of interest.
This is what they look like:

At the Dakar this year:
And for some light Thursday morning perving, here's the warpainted-up bike Miguel Puertas plans to take to Dakar 2016. And no, it's not a Honda. That's a Dotorri rear tank. Simple, light, inexpensive approach:
ORDERING A BASHPLATE
If you are serious about being on this list, please add your name and forum name, and PM me your phone and email. If we get to 10, I will get a precise cost with all costs in, then you pay your money and I ship them over.
I am planning on delivery by 1 July, which means we need to order and pay by 15 April - so you've got a month to get the cash together.
PLEASE only add your name if you are prepared to buy one. No 'dibs' or expressions of interest or 'I like the idea' type intention. If you are keen to put your money down, then sign up.
Viva Amageza!
Cheers
Ian
