NEW 2013 KLR 650

I'm looking at getting this bike new. Never had one but have been doing some research. Am I doing the right thing by doing the "doo"thing,suspension upgrade,hand guards(alum) and alum bash plate? For now. Will be doing about 80% dirt. I'm near Durban and dint know anyone around(apart from the dealer) who is good at this. Thanks
