Newbie going Transalping

December 2010 trip dartboard style... This is a beautiful country to explore.

27th Dec 2010, Started in Pta to Kimberley, via Potch, Viljoenskroon, Bothaville, Hoopstad, Hertzogville, Boshof to Kimberley.

28th Dec 2010 Kimberley to Graaff-Reinet, via Orania (bought some Ora’s in 42 C heat) De Aar, Richmond to Graaff-Reinet.

29th Dec 2010 Graaff-Reinet to Smithfield, via Spitskopvlei, Hofmeyr (met a fellow Wild Dog “Buks” and rode together, him on his 250 Yammie, Respect "Buks") Steynsburg, Venterstad, Bethulie to Smithfield.

30th Dec 2010 Smithfield to Memel, via Jammerdrif (near Wepener) Hobhouse, Ladybrand, Ficksburg, Fouriesburg (said fair well to “Buks” who was heading to Bethlehem), Clarens, Golden Gate, Harrismith to Memel. Overnight in the Memel Hotel. Thank you Chris and Audrey, What a joll.

31st Dec 2010 Memel back to Pta, via Vrede, Roberts Drif (bought a farm in the Free State), Holmdene, Delmas on the dreaded R50. Back in Pta in time for the Old Years Eve Party and a story to tell.

Total: 2490 km of which 1100 km dirt road. Don’t think about it...just to it.

plain SLEG. I lost sight of my priorities...and focused on work. This will not happen again. Lola (my TA) will do some serious mileage, and more reports to come.

Thanks. Much appreciated. The evening before the big mud, the heavens opened over Memel. 170 mm in less than an hour...I'm not joking. But excellent ride. Will recommend Memel to everybody
