I was asked whether I'd agree that an engine can in fact ping, but that it would be nondestructive or non-harmful pinging :-[ :eek7:
My understanding of "pinging" or a rattle of the engine due to pre-detonation, comes from the piston slapping around in the sleeve in protest whilst still travelling up to TDC. How therefore can any amount of "pinging" not be harmful to the engine?
Would appreciate constructive input or response from those in the know?
