Nuvi 300 - not made for biking ??

I have recently acquired a Garmin Nuvi 300 that I'd like to attach to my bike
Went looking for some sort of mount at the local outdoor / camping establishment.

The chap there said that the Nuvi is not made for biking & will break within 5 mins if used offroad on a D/S bike - hence the reason that Garmin do not make a bicycle or motorcycle mount for this model.

Is this true ?

Thoughts opinions / suggestions please.
