The idea came more from a BMW versus Merc car thread but it struck a chord.
We know about that terrible HES cabling issue, gearbox bearings at 150k km the odd drive shaft, but generally the old war horses are relatively easy to fix.
My old box shaped 323 and then a 325 were the same.
Then you get the next generation, 10 times the sensors, plastic connections that you cannot open after 5 years of heat degradation or they break, generally not serviceable by owner and will often be scrapped due to parts costs.
I think our 11xx’s will outlive most of the current generation of BMW’s never mind the others.
