Today a member advertised his KTM990 for sale on the Trade, Buy and Sell Thread. Immediately there were posts from members telling him to go introduce himself, post pictures, telling him that this is not Gumtree etc.

These types of posts on someones advert thread are totally un-acceptable and against the rules and spirit of the forum. There has never been a rule at Wild Dog Forum that only members with a certain number of posts are allowed to post advertisements on the site. Certain members seem to think it is their right to post their comments all over a For Sale thread simply because they think the poster shouldn't be using Wild Dog Forum just to sell his bike or whatever. In this morning's case the seller had in fact been a member of the Wild Dog Forum for over 2 and a half years, but for whatever reason had chosen not to make any posts, as is his right as a member.

I know members are going to tell me that they like buying stuff from well known members as they feel they can trust them and they know they will not be ripped off by a fellow member. There is some truth in this to an extent, but it is also a fallacy to think that just because a member has posted a brief Introduction and then made a few arbitrary posts on some kakpraat thread that he is now suddenly more trustworthy than someone who has never introduced himself and has joined Wild Dog Forum just to sell his bike.

If you don't feel comfortable buying a bike from a member who has no posts and you don't know anything about him, then it is your right not to buy that bike. But don't leave your crappy comments all over the guy's For Sale thread. If you only want to do business with someone who has a sound reputation on Wild Dog Forum, then by all means only contact sellers who you know and trust. But please don't expect all the other Wild Dog members to be deprived of the opportunity of buying goods advertised by new members (or old members without an acceptably high post count). As it happens, the KTM990R in question was by all accounts a bargain and was sold the same day it was advertised.

Some of the members who left particularly crappy comments on that particular thread have received a one week ban, while one member who left comments as well as published a PM on open forum that the advertiser sent him has received a 3 week ban.

Thank you for your valued co-operation  ;D
