On my drive up to Swakop in Dec I bought NTC pre-paid SIM in Namibia.
It worked extremely well and I used it for both voice and data.
I lent it to a fellow dog for a trip up, but unfortunately the trip never happened.
Getting a pre-paid SIM in Nam is not a big issue like RSA - there is no RICA process, but I think it may be quite nice to use it as a "Free floater" for the WDs traveling up - the advantages being.
- You know the number in advance. You can tell the family, boss?, and mates the number you will have up there.
- You can buy airtime as soon as you cross the border and start using it - SIMS are only available in the larger towns.
- The new SIM activation can take quite a few hours, and for data up to a day.
- Any balance left on leaving can be used up by your mates.
NTC SIMs are valid for six months. I last used it on Dec 28 so it's good until 27 June.
So it's available for anyone going up soon for any WD as long as that person passes it on to another WD after they leave Nam. It may be fun just to call the number and see which WD up there answers !!
