Amazing a new technical post in the Group.
An interesting subject came up from our Eastern Transvaal resident specialist R11XX Mechanic Graham on the R1150 Wattapp group.
We all know about the Left Hand tensioner upgrade, (essentialy the R1200 tensioner) that stops the ugly oil drain down rattle on start up on the original tensioner.
But I was not aware of a production line change to the Left Hand Chain Guide, it seems the guide was reinforced to help stop in service breakages at some stage, no part number change as far as we know just a modification, maybe the old type are actually R1100 and it was not an upgrade, but we know of more R1150 failures than R1100?
The original guide tensioner contact shape.
The contact patch of old and new with revised reinforcing.
The distorted original after long use
View of revised reinforcing contact point for tensioner
Now this is largely just for interest/ info as they can only be swapped out on a full engine split, but can explain why some engines fail at the guide, then if the old style tensioner is still fitted the piston can drop out and mess up the motor internals!
Thanks Graham
