Ek was nog nooit daar nie en die klink na 'n goeie verskoning, maar ek wil nie daar gaan sukkel met die 1190 as hy (of liewer ek) nie heeltemal geskik is vir daardie terrein nie.

I got such a fright I invented a trip for the same time

I'd love to (try and) tackle that sand. Falling is the worst that can happen.

Sand isn’t all that bad, but you want to tackle serious sand with the appropriate bike. On a big (heavy) bike, it can become very hard work and in the process, all pleasure and fun is lost.

As JustBendIt said, there are heaps of dirt roads/tracks in Richtersveld, and there will be many routes with perfect options for heavier bikes (non-Dakar god riders). For me, I would like to make the ride there and back part of the memories of such a weekend. So the whole interplay of time available vs boredom of slabbing vs the "wrongness" of caging with trailer becomes a big consideration. When there, there will be many options for outrides.

The plan would be to host it at one of the river camps on the SA side of the border … the little “town” is called Kotzehoop … a couple of km from Vioolsdrift

There are a few great sites that I am busy doing a recce on …and they are all super close to great riding routes in all directions

I have been a member on this forum for 15 years ... in that time I have learnt a shitload here, met many people and made some wonderful friends ...and of course done plenty amazing trips

I feel like giving back to this wonderful fraternity and am thinking of volunteering to organise a National Bash this year

... but it will be a Bash with a difference ... instead of being a weekend piss up like I feel most bashes have become it will have organised rides for various skill levels and will be led and swept by capable competent riders ...of course there will always be a bar for alcoholic festivities ...I enjoy a dop with the best of them

It will be in October 2022

My thoughts for venues are "The Richtersveld" or "The Tankwa" ...both areas offer great riding and good adventure ...and both areas have hosted succesful bashes in the past

I know it may seem far for some and people are gonna say it must be more central blah blah blah ...but if I organise it those are my 2 choices ...and first prize is "The Richtersveld"

"The Richtersveld" offers what I consider to be the most amazing and diverse adventure riding terrain in South Africa ...the scenery is spectacular and the accomodation facilities on the Orange River are great ...offer everything from "bring your own tent camping" to air conditioned riverfront chalets ...and the weather is always great too ...in my opinion and experience it is THE place to get a big bunch of adventure riders together

The Tankwa is my second choice ...the only "plus" is that it is closer distance wise ...it has its own beauty but there is also miles and miles of just nothing whereas there is just so much more and better riding in The Richtersveld

So please put up your hands and show me who would be keen on this
