shifting on the pig has never been the best experience, but the other day I read how to do it properly on these boxers. You keep the clutch pulled in a little bit longer so the gear goes in properly. I normally try to shift quick, but it seems that's not the way. Shift like you normally do, but don't let the clutch lever out quickly...amazing difference...actually quite smooth now, and I don't miss second anymore!
