Shortage of tyres internattionally

Hi Guys, I heard yesterday that there is a shortage of tyres internationally as there is a world wide shortage of rubber. I might need a new set of Michelin's for my LC and was told there is no stock in SA. Can anybody elaborate on this for me? Can this be possible?
