Swannie asked me to test the new swanniebraa and see if one can use it to prepare a Skaapkop

Skaapkop can be baked in an oven from raw, or boiled and then crisped in a braai, similar to how one would prepare an eisben.

I tried the second method - cook the skaapkop first -best chance of success and I can judge whther it can be done from raw at all....

Some pictures and comments follow.:

First to see is the skaapkop can actually fit in the braai

Such a dreamy looking beauty.   :angel7:

Get the big pot ready - salt, allspice, bay leaves, a splash of dry white wine

Line the bowl with tin foil - I decided against using the drip tray - skaapkop drup nie

Ok that does not work - when the foil goes over the sides and you fit the middle section, it slices the foil. The edges of the middle section is sharp. The model Swannie gave me also had a very tight fit between middle section and bottom pan

That's better - fit the middle part and then put some foil in to make a bowl

Perfect fit!!  8)

Note that I fit the braai grid at its lowest position - it rests on the ridge above the middle section
