An Africa Twin prepped for Africa.
I flew into Cape Town in January and bought this 1999 XRV 750 Africa Twin, but coronavirus means I have to return to the US for an unknown amount of time. I had only set aside til the end of June to be riding, so I regretfully I've decided to sell the bike.
The bike has 41,000km on it now. Price R40,000. Comes with 2 keys,
I prepped this bike to go all the way up to Ethiopia and it has received a lot of TLC.
- New motobatt battery
- wider foot pegs
- Leo Vince exhaust
- new fuel pump
- LED headlights,
- folding mirrors
- crash bars
- center stand
At ~35,000km it got
- new steering head bearing
- new front and rear wheel bearings
- new sprocket bearing
- valve clearances done
- chain and sprockets, thereafter lubed every ~500km
- Metzeler Karoo 3 tires with ultra heavy duty tubes.
I just got to Joberg and was preparing to go to Mozambique and Swaziland, then head north, so I put in a new air filter and fresh oil and oil filter a few hundred k's ago.
Have some spare spark plugs and inline fuel filter. Also including the OEM spark plug tool, which is essential to get at 2 of the 4 plugs. The float bowl for one of the carbs was also damaged and the bike comes with a replacement float bowl, special ordered from Honda in Japan. To clarify, the bike still runs great. The bike was running rich on the front cylinder even though carb setting was lean. When I took apart the carb, what I found was the overflow stem was gone and the hole closed up. So it makes it run a little rich. The float bowl can just be swapped out.
Papers are all in order, licensed til December 31, 2020.
