Before buying a new helmet due to excessive wind noise, I would recommend first do the following:
Stand up while driving and get your head away from behind your windscreen into full unhindered wind, then listen to the real wind noise. Sit back down and compare.
My conclusion is that the biggest factor of wind noise is firstly your windscreen and then secondly your helmet. The rotor created by the windscreen as the wind passes over it is what creates all the peak vibrations, bone conductions etc etc. The unstable rotor air "slaps" your helmet from all sides and this is directly transferred by the helmet to your ears/cartilage - ear plugs dont really keep out this sound. It feels more like a vibration than an actual sound.
The other whistling sounds can mostly be controlled by ear plugs. Take your hand and play around with the airflo coming over the windscreen, see where deflection provides the least helmet noise and address as needed.

PS: Different speeds create different airlfow patterns, so try and keep the conditions the same when trying to figure out the airflow pattern.
