It most likely won't...It most likely won't but let's at least hope that this has an impact on upcoming national elections.

Ja, Chris.Het julle n druk pompie om daai water in die huis te kry Nannie?
Yes, correct but there was power crisis in the 1950's to 1975 give or take, was big push by mines, who wanted cheaper electricity, and obviously the NATS wanted more money from GOLD, so they build more power stations. But the way they went about it was brilliant, led to cheapest power in the world and they still made a profit as you know by exporting. But I don't even think the NATS, planned for such population growth. Sadly, one needs to think about it this way, there should still be surplus, because the mines don't consume what they did. But pure lack of foresight and planning and we sit with the results.Very interesting visual. So, to sum it up, from 1948 to 1994, 31 new Power Plants were commissioned, and after 1994 only 5?
I wonder if the countdown on Eskom's website is to celebrate 100 years or it's demise ?

Tans hou Vuma Fibre se batterye in ons buurt net so n uur tydens loadshedding.
I feel for you , thankfully in CT we have it a bit better .
A lot of companies are taking big strain at the moment , that is with Stage 4 and 6 , stage 8 will be the death of a lot of them , and that is the really sad part .
Always had a freezer loaded to the brim with meat - I don't really know why, apart maybe from jumping at "specials".
Been emptying that heap for a few months now and will keep at it until it only contains meat for a week or so.
We find forgotten treasures which is nice but the risk and gemors from a vrot freezer is just not worth it anymore.
Have an inverter but lately saving it to increase service life.
More than forty years ago I had poor aunt that lived in the gom part of Vrededorp and my father was surprised that she did not have a fridge when he took a meat hamper to her.
She would buy meat when possible and eat it on the day of purchase.
I always remember that and sometimes think I am heading into that direction.
Typing this might explain my loaded freezer in a way.

"I often wonder how this country would have turned out if the ANC ran its SOE's as efficiently as the NP ."
The NATS were efficient and run the businesses well, but they where skimming just as much as they do now, but it worked so who was to argue.
Pretty much through mining interests I believe. The mines basically forced the government into supplying below cost power. The government of the time then granted mining rights and received kick backs where miners and multinationals didn't really care about the environment. Can't remember the books, but They benefited through the increase in taxation, and cheap labour. They also said the 60 & 70's corruption was crude compared to the 80's, but it's ended up in in contracts for Koeberg's all types of interesting speculations, Arms deals, all the way down to the "broederbond" If anything the systemic corruptions going back a 100 years in this country does provide for interesting readingIf they were stealing as much and it worked, as you say, how did they do it?

Just an ex-tour guide... so the history might be skew... Still damned interesting... And still nothing has changed
Except that we dont have power, trains, water, a postal service, roads, and so on.And still nothing has changed
I am not saying the wordI don't know how old this is , but one thing about our politicians is that they are way out of touch with reality
