I wanted to remove my starter motor just to clean it up ( outside ) and paint it. The sand and stones from the front wheel have effectively "sandblasted" most of the paint off.

All very straightforward till the coolant pipes got in the way of the final removal of the thing. Loosening the rearmost coolant pipe appeared to be only way to get it out.....is this really necessary?

I tried prizing them away to make a little space to no avail. I wasn't in the mood for cleaning up spilt coolant so just left it.
