Swambo has a 2001 F650GS with around 70000km. It has been well maintained by ourselves, and things get done right, but it now has a hick up I cant solve.
Syntoms a week ago - small amount of black smoke out the pipes, usually when cold, heavier fuel consumption, and loss of power. Also has higher revs when idling, around 1800 rather than the 1200 odd it used to be, and it sounds like it is backfiring a little bit, more like irregular idling after doing a 10km ride.
The oil level keeps going up while riding, so I keep a eye on the water to see if it goes down. Water level stays full in radiator.
Smell of fuel when I open oil resivoir.
On the weekend I did the following.
Checked intake manifold - 100%
Cleaned throttle body inside and out.
Replaced VDO sensor (used)
Replaced Fuel injector (used) think the original is in there at the moment.
Replaced Preassure regulating filter (used)
Removed all electrical connections and cleaned with contact cleaner (Fuses, Relays and all plugs I loosened during fault finding)
It was better yesterday, even feeling that it has more immediate power, but still reved at 1800 rpm, and today theoil level up again.
Now I know I need to change oil as there was fuel in so viscosity is stuffed, but I don't want to change and still have the problem afterwards.
Any ideas?
