Okay fine. So I'm not doing a conversion. But the thread title may be more apt if this goes off topic from my original question.

I'm not trying to turn my '12 ABS into an XC. One day I'll buy an xcx, so that's not what this exercise is about.

I have happened across a low milage '15 XCX shock.
It's apparently 360mm and the roadie shock is apparently 345mm. So not the same.
My initial idea was to get the XCX shock shortened (shimmed) and put the roadie spring on it.
This gives me rebound damping and an external reservoir for additional overheating protection, an issue I've face when loaded and with my wife on the back over corrugated roads.

I digress, sorry.

Has anyone else done a shock swap like this?
Put a xc or xcx shock straight on a roadie?

I'm wondering if the xcx shock will give more sag and leave me at the correct hight (if the dog bones are different) etc etc.
Sadly I got the shock yesterday and am now traveling away for work again.
So fact finding over experimentation at this point for me.
