I had my first puncture on the KLR today. Happen to walk past the bike, parked outside my office, and saw the front wheel was flat. I removed the front wheel, and seeing that CIT is closer to my workplace that my home, I took it to them. How long can it take to patch a tube, and how expensive can it be ? An hour to fix, and R100, thank you very much.
But it gave me an opportunity to learn/wonder about a few issues. I filled up the tank this morning 20km before my workplace. To remove the front wheel, we had to lift the bike onto 4 bricks. "We" being 2 guys, and myself pushing the bricks under the engine. And that was a real effort ! Fitting the front wheel required some wiggling to get the wheel in place and the axle bolt through.
The supports/lifts that I see often on sites (Rob C's latest "jack" included) looks very thin. Are those sturdy enough to support the bike to the extend that you can safely remove and refit the front wheel ? Do they lift the bike high enough to refit the wheel comfortably ? How do you fit, and jack the bike up with those devices ? (Especially with a full tank of fuel). I/m looking for a spot to fit a hydraulic lift somewhere on the bike ! ;D
I was quite impressed by the array of tools that came standard with the bike; I needed no other tools (apart from a hydraulic jack !) and could do it all. The quality it not up to much though
