A few years ago I was planning a long solo trip the Cape and bought an InReach mini, paid the subs for a few months and then ended up selling it as the solo trip never materialised.
I'm now thinking about doing a couple solo trips again and am again thinking about getting the InReach or Spot, but the question I want to ask has anyone made use of the SOS feature amd if so what was your experience and if used with which device?
Keen to understand how responsive they were, was the process of summoning assistance easy, were there any additional costs, besides ambulance, medical bills, etc?
What are the other options when you need technical or medical assistance and your out of cellphone range?
