What a cracker of a weekend riding with some awesome people in the Tonteldoos area!

@JesseH joined me on a weekend ride to Tonteldoos.  We left Nelspruit on Friday afternoon at 2pm. Rode a bit of tar to Sudwala  caves and then hit the dirt for a great afternoon of riding.

After the customary cappuccino and jaffle in Lydenburg, we rode towards Dullstroom via Elandspruit road. It looked like it was raining all around us and although we encountered some very wet roads, we did not encounter any rain ourselves.

From Dullstroom we rode back towards Lydenburg and then turned onto the Nederhorst road which turned out to be a lot a blast to ride after the heavy rains in recent months.

Riding into Bush Boys, Joe and Ruth Holmes’ amazing spot just outside the hamlet of Tonteldoos, we had some more giggles in our helmets as both Jesse and I looked more like figure skaters than bikers riding into the valley on the extremely slippery red clay

We were greeted by Joe and Ruth, Gary Griffith and two ladies, Karen and Melany who rode from JHB on their DR650 and KLR.

WoW , die plaas lyk mooi & die dam is vol water  :thumleft:

Friday night we were battered by one of the worst storms I’ve ever seen. Raging rivers of water all around us, roofs leaking and lightning strikes all around us.

Knowing this area, the next day was going to be a challenge in the mud....[emoji48]

Shame and before we know it Jesse owns a 890!!! ;) :peepwall: :lol8: :eek7:

Saturday morning there was the small issue of getting the ladies safely back on the road. The 70mm+ of rain an hail from the previous night made walking on the red clay difficult and the ladies refused to ride their bikes out

Then it was time for us to set off to “Joe’s Mountain”. It’s a ride I’ve done a few times, but it changes every time I ride it and with all the rain that has fallen in recent months, it has become a proper challenge.

For those who don’t know Joe..... probably the toughest guy I know! At 70yrs of age, he will put most adv riders on here to shame on his 990.  At the age of 68 he competed in the Kalahari Rally en finished 13th overall! A special character and proud to call him a friend!
