My 990 has just reached 30 000km, most of it two up on tar and gravel, loaded with luggage and  usually ridden with a bit of enthusiasm. I am on my third rear tyre and it has more than half its tread left. My front tyre is number two and it is also still good for a few thousand km. The first one I replaced because I wanted a more aggressive pattern. It was given to another Dog who later passed it on to someone else.

The original chain and sprockets are still fitted and they also have a lot of life left. Same goes for brake pads. Except for an upgraded fuel filter, no money has been spent on anything but normal service items and farkles.

Average fuel consumption is 16km/l and I sometimes get 320km on more on a single tank. Moereloos and I once toured together and travelling at 110-120 and I got better consumption than his KLR.

So what makes me, or my bike, different from what I read about other 990’s?
