I don't really understand the superbike nomenclature or system. I assumed that all performance bikes (ie GSXR / CBR / ZX-R / RZF125, 250, 600, 750 and 1000) were highly-strung flat-4 engines.
However I found out this week that the 500cc Ninja is a parallel twin and what the americans call the 650cc Ninja is actually what we call the ER6. And the Suzuki SV650 (which is a 90-degree twin) is considered by some an SS bike. Though the ER and SV make considerably less power than the flat-4 650's out there.
How does this work? Do kawasaki just stick "ninja" onto any of their green road bikes cause it will sell more?
