What pants for work

When I commute to work I wear my jacket but normal pants because I need to look reasonably presentable i.e. no jeans.

Problem is that I worry about the lack of protection for the legs.

Are there any type of riding pants out there that can pass for a piece of normal clothing while affording some protection?

Any advice will be appreciated.
