@Roger39 there is indeed. I've found of late that some roads are dusty they've dried out so much, and then some places are quagmires.

Swaziland, stepped in a hole as I entered the water, close call.

Water crossing looked deep, I opted to ride across the foot bridge seen in the background.

Nice picnic and camping spots for self-sufficient campers. No services, no cell reception either.

River crossing was deep and rough. This guy struggled for traction.

Check that massive tree fern...

Sunshine at last, but sadly not too much time today, so we decided to explore fairly locally today and visit Glen Strathfarrar which is about 30 minutes from the throbbing metropolis that is Inverness.

This is actually a private road, but you can take a vehicle up it (they limit numbers to 25 at any one time; you have to check in at a cottage by the road and someone takes your reg number before unlocking the gate) It's a beautiful wee 15 mile ride up the valley to a dam that is part of a hydro scheme. Plenty of places to stop along the way if you're a picnic-er, but this time we were only stopping for photos. Here's a selection:

TDawg you may have limited sunshine there, but my word you have ample green scenery!!! (y)
👏

Yeah, no shortage of green. :) Nice to be riding through forest that is closer to what nature intended rather than acres of farmed pine.

I dislike riding in the rain, but, during the long dry spell we had through late May and June water levels were dropping fast in some important places like Loch Ness and Loch Maree near Kinlochewe, which are fookin' massive bodies of water. It's like even here we live with just enough water, and six weeks of little rain starts to cause problems. Doesn't really bode too well for the future...

TD what runs without water when you have a dry spell? Do the plants start wilting? I would assume or have always that your soil is always soaked with water?
Do the big lakes then drop in level? Are any of those lakes waters used for farming or municipal water?

It's certainly a thing that the lakes drop in level - various organisations can take water from them including some farmers, hydro power and drinking water, and the river systems are fairly fragile. We had a lot more dry weather after this article was published so perhaps the boats on the canal were scraping the bottom. This gives a picture if you can see it in SA..

There was a lot of brown grass around which is unusual, and several pretty significant moorland fires, but I didn't particularly notice plants shrivelling up. It was bloody lovely though, but as is the way, we paid for it with a month of pissing rain after. ;)

Not today...yesterday....in light of the weather predictions indicating a moerse froue kont becreeping the country, I thought I'd best shoot out for some helmet therapy lest I succumb to cabin-fever induced insanity by Sunday afternoon.
105 kms on the back roads ( dirt) to Friemersheim, and then a little loop into the forests and over the Beneke River ( 3rd pic) and back to F/Heim. Then on the black stuff to Groot Brak and back to George on dirt roads.

was Bikeaversary day... My KLR has been my trusty steed for 16 years so a ride was needed.
Stopped while crossing the Kaalspruit wich still has running water, then I tried to reach Hagesdam...
Stopped at the T and so did Shrek... battery or wiring problem, no start just Brrrrrrr.
Fortunately two locals arrived in a bakkie with a sheep, they gave me push start and I headed home.
No stops this time and got home safe, now for the troubleshooting, suspect battery foobar...
