You know I was going on about a new bash plate for my 990 the other day, well Bruce Mcdonald from Motorradical in PTA supplied me his pre production mock up plate to try for Rallye Raid.
It is a beefy looking thing, with replacable fittings so you won't need to throw away a perfectly good plate if you take a big knock.
As any of the route 2 guys could attest to, Rallye Raid had some challenging rock steps and descents that were negotiated over the weekend, some of them taken faster than I probably should have
The plate stood up well to the abuse and even with my fooked 90000km old mounting rubbers, the plate fitted like a dream and never rattled once.
Please remember this is a pre production unit, so the production run will be powder coated and have a proper rubber absorber mounted on the knock stop.
RAD will be stocking the plate soon and they will retail for about R2000.00
As Bruce says, we have a unit that is built really strong (like the Touratech) that retails for the same kind of price as the SW Motech.
Lekker when being South African actually pays off price wise, unlike some RSA neck protection companies that allow us to buy their products cheaper from the USA than in their country of design ot:
The plastic shield that you see is to prevent the jump start positive terminal on the 990 from grounding out should you take a big knock on that side. It will be neater/ different on the production model.
Check the way that the plate protected my clutch casing from a potentially catastrauphic failure mid ride, in the middle of the Wild coast. Protect your bikes Guys!
