I am wondering what will happen in the Supersport 600 (SSP600) class next year, since it is pretty much dead. 600cc Sport bikes are a dying breed. Kawasaki and Yamaha is pretty much the only two competing currently and both are getting pretty long in the tooth. From next year the Yamaha is pretty much illegal as there is no road going version available in Europe anymore. While Honda announced a new 600RR on the way, it seems 600 class sport bikes are on the way out. So rules had to be tuned to keep the mid-class on the WSBK side of the paddock alive and to entice more entries. ANd who lines up? Aprilia with a 660cc twin. Triumph with a 765cc triple. Ducati with a 955cc V2. WSBK say: "No problem. Bring them, we will balance the power with our clever algorithm software".
The Supersport 300 (SSP300) class is already a cock-up with only Kawasaki and Yamaha (there are four very lonely KTM 390s) competing with the Yamaha's the only 300cc bikes. Maybe they should allow the aging 600's to race in this class? Balance their power with algorithms and all.
