Thanks Dux. I will forward it to him. The bike is as std as can be. Not sure how much he will spend on it. Currently used as a farm (dairy) bike. But when i visit him i might use it and he on his t7.

There is a locally produced header pipe that also lost a lot of power and torque when put on the dyno .

In terms of the basic mods, have you ever put an XR on the Dyno after opening airbox, changing filter, desmogging, rejetting the carb and adding FMF silencer?

That seems to be what everyone does before opening the engine and I was wondering what difference it actually makes.

My 650L was stronger with its standard pipe on than with a "performance pipe" on.

There's lots of info regarding Dave's Mods on the XR650L. I did these on my ex XR and it made a difference. You can do this almost for free. Some blanking plates, tubes, clamps and smallish brass washer. Just don't gut the standard pipe, unless you are looking for a good excuse to fit an aftermarket.

After all that work and money it only made 45 hp ... an asthmatic breathing through a flattened straw makes more than that

Reminds me why I have never bought one of these ...crikey ... to think the stock bike only makes 30 hp ... you can't even pull the skin off a rice pudding with that

A Std xr600r makes 46hp and 33.5kw. With the mods done I am sure that it must be much higher than 45hp because I have increased my compression and ported my head and there is more than enough power for a classic.

Tbe power is all relative to a dyno , some read low others high , the important thing is to only use one dyno when tuning , at least that is one constant . I have a feeling the one on tbe Youtube clip is low , but at least we can see what power gains he got .

What's your point?

Standard the XRL makes 43.6hp
DR makes 43.5hp
KLR males 42.1hp
And the mighty KTM 640 makes a whopping 6hp more @ 49hp?

No , I have only ever dyno'd after engine work . Got impressive figures but not 50% , the last one I dynoed the jetting was still very rich and there was about a 30% improvement.
They used a Megacycle camshaft , but they didn't specify which one and they do 5 different camshafts .
