Let me try to explain what happens...difficult in words...

The 1980 XT500 I recently acquired is completely rebuilt.

When stopping at robots, the bike idles perfectly. However, every now and then, the bike seems to just die very momentarily for perhaps one firing. Then it returns to normal. Most of the time it will simply carry on as normal afterwards. If I'm unlucky and the overall revs are low at idle, the momentary dead spot won't fire up again and the bike gently cuts out. This can be avoided by keeping the revs slightly above normal whilst stopped. Quite embarrasing to lane spit to the front of the line and then have to kick start while the cars are moving off all around me.

The Q is, what could be the problem?

a) spark plug
b) points
c) condensor
d) carb something or other
e) fuel? (no spluttering whilts at speed)

Thanks for any help.
