‘Motorbike thief’ shot, four arrested in R21 highway shootout Rekord Centurion

One man was killed and four others arrested in a shootout involving police on the R21 highway on Wednesday morning.
“Police had been searching for a group responsible for stealing motorbikes, boats and caravans across Gauteng,” said police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo.
“Early on Wednesday, police were informed the group were stealing a motorbike in Wierdabrug.
“The six men, travelling in a Toyota RunX and Toyota Hilux with a trailer, were followed by police to the R21 highway towards Kempton Park,” he said.
“When police tried to stop the group they started shooting at the officers.”
Masondo said during the shootout one of the men was fatally wounded.
“Another was wounded and taken to hospital under police guard while three men were arrested,” he said.
“Two firearms were recovered by police.
“The search for the remaining men continues.”
