Try and take one for a spin. Bikes are personal. I owned a 800GS and 950 simultaneously. The 950 was ‘better’ at everything except running cost and manoeuvrability. I had to let one go in the end and kept the GS. If my parameters at the time were more dirt focussed, I’d have kept the 950

I think your expectation is the problem, not the bike. The point of this bike is that it’s accessible (low seat, A2 license) and affordable. An entry level travel adv if you will. I think they hit the mark spot on
