Bike 2012 Yamaha XT660z
Rider weight 100kg (naked) so probably 110-115kg fully kitted
During a trip last weekend through the Karoo I was riding the "Hekke" road. Jumped one of the speed humps...nothing mayor...just fast enough to get both wheels off the ground. Upon landing the right hand footpeg broke. Luckily I could ride it out with no more damage than a bruise on my calf and a brown stripe in my undies.
Bolt basically sheared from the aluminium hanger. Bolt did not break.
Footpegs came with the bike (second hand) so not sure exactly their age.
Chris from Flying Brick informed me that he is only aware of one such failure in RSA and the manufacturers apparently only aware of one more in Europe.
Users of these pegs should probably give them a once over every now and again.
This is not meant as a moan...just sharing info that may help others.
YMMV
PS: The passenger peg on a XT660Z can be used in an emergency but the bolt is only 5-6mm so one needs to ride carefully.
PPS: Flying Brick sell aftermarket pegs that they manufacture for KTM690/Husky 701...these fit after a little modification with a grinder.
