To add what @RobC said, also clean the carb. I had some surging on my 2010 and a carb clean sorted my issue out.

Did anyone mentioned the started clutch yet? Could that also not be causing this issue?

Also follow the negative terminal to where it is attached to the body / crankcase cover and check for obvious issues. I've had a similar issue but not with a Dakar.

Or the gear lever is loose that could be the cause of it not going into gear properly.
