Glad u found the culprit. Get the mgnetic plug. I had very little deposit on mine at the first oil change after the tentioner broke. Worth the piece of mind!
My 2007 1200 GS have this rattle on start up and Iam sure I can hear it while riding out an uphill. Forums on the 1150 and early 1200,s suggests issues with the left tentioner.IS there anybody that actually found a fix to this.
Dont wait for it to sound sick......check the oil filter after 50 km or so after oil change. ....wash it in parafin and check for shavings. If you find a lot of it and it is magnetic....have the engine opened while still in running state. 99% of engine parts are still coôperating...,Find ...

Good point. I went right pased PuTSONDERWATER without stopping. Was to busy getting to KENHARDT. Must admit that , for my skill level, with luggage and wife on the back and a terrible gravel road, I was probably to nervous to look anywhere but UP.
