Perhaps not a technical aspect as much as an ergonomic one, but I think a GSA 'fits' a taller rider better... You look more in proportion with the bigger, bulkier bike...

I only know my rims last much  longer on tar, so perhaps the same must hold true for the tyres too!

I've been to the physio lately due to the same problem.  Her diagnosis is that those muscles are in fact going into a spasm to compensate / protect the real source of the problem - weak lower back muscles. She gave me some exercises to do to strengthen those. Still have to get around to it...
