the spring sound is unusual. clunks, donks and crunches are normal. the story i remember is that the gearbox internals aren't nicely lined up at standstill and with age the tolerances are slightly off. when the spinning input shaft tries to engage the box internals then there is a clunk, donk...

hose is 75mm TOO short. does that help? got a new hose today and will fit them this weekend. perhaps we could make up a spec for replacement hoses with the correct lengths and angles and things for future reference. i got a pm that indicates someone else can't measure either. 8)

but you might be able to re-animate it (have you seen the movie "re-animator", very good). 8) you mentioned that the plugs are new. try swapping them out with the old ones. sometimes new things fail early in their life cycle. :thumleft:
