Hi All,

We are planning to do this trip with two bikes (KTM 790 Adventure & Ducati desert X) and two 4x4 vehicles. Keeping in mind that our children (aged between 8 - 11 years old) will be within the vehicles we can't cover each and every day on the road. They are adventure experienced, and this will not be their first rodeo around 4000 - 5000km in two weeks.

We really would like to get advice on the roads, places not to miss even if this means that we need to stay a day extra or take a different route. This trip is to experience Namibia and see most of the Sothern part.
So, our very rough draft looks like this:

  • Groot-Brak to Clanwilliam
  • Clanwilliam to border (Vioolsdrift) and accommodation around the orange river on Namib side
  • Vioolsdrift to Luderitz/Kolmanskop
  • Luderitz to Helmeringhaisen
  • Helmeringhaisen to Sossusvlei
  • Sossuvlei to Swakopmund/Hentiesbaai
  • Henties to Spitzkoppe
  • Spitzkoppe to Windhoek
  • Windhoek to Mariental
  • Mariental - Visrivier Canyon
  • Visrivier to border (Vioolsdrift)
We have 16 travel days to get there and back.
Accommodation is a bit of a pain because we are 4 adults, and 4 children aged 8 - 11 years. Camping is not really on the list however we all love camping. The only reason why we are trying to avoid camping is the extra luggage.

Any advice, recommendations, etc. are welcome.
I will be updating this as our route and planning

Is this a good or bad idea? Hentiesbaai to Spitzkoppe via D1918 (I know the D roads are not maintained)
