well, six riders on a smorgasboard of bikes, dr650 suzuki, 650 aprilia pegaso, ktm 690, bmw gs1200, honda tornado 250 and a honda crf250l. once we all met up we were off ! great start, twenty minutes later female rider silly B had a puncture on the tornado, not wanting to ruin the day we quickly started to remove the rear wheel from the bike, it was all hands on deck at this stage, oh dear a 10mm split in the tube, we decided to patch it only to find my glue had completely dried up in the tube , Hotklou got all excited and said he had a tube in his kit, great, nope, his his tube held the same as mine, sweet f all. during this time Greeny had given up hope and was on the way home to get his bakkie, he shouldnt have left.
Hotklou had a small tube of super glue and i had a pair of latex gloves, i covered the split in superglue and rolled up the latex glove and pressed the lot together, not pretty but 5 minutes later and we pumped up the tube.
unfu**ing believable, the glove and glue worked, i put the tube in the tyre, the tyre on the rim, the rim on the bike and hey presto, stop the clock, we have a winner !!
no one would believe it if it wasnt for the pix, by this time Greeny was at home about to start the bakkie and decided it was enough for the day and didnt rejoin the ride, the two girls also decided to end the ride there as no one had confidence in the latex glove /superglue patch i made.
iron brew and his pegaso voluntered to escort the girls home on the tar in case the tyre blew but it didnt and the little honda cruised back to brackendowns at a steady 120kph, the tyre is still as firm as a strippers backside.
myself and Hotklou decided to continue the ride and gave ourselves and the bikes a good workout on some great single track trails, some time later we turned back to brackendowns and regrouped for a coffee and a chat, it was actually still a great ride, we learned a lot about tubes of glue and hot weather, how to make a plan and never get beaten by a puncture.
we have decided to do a re run in two weeks time. all welcome[bring those latex gloves]
