I may, or may not, have been operating at around twice the national speed limit (kidding - of course I wasn't).
Massive explosion - I thought that a rod or piston had exited the chat. When I managed to stop about a km or so down the road, I was greeted by this heartwarming sight.
The bottom faring mounting failed. I suspected plastic fatigue, but on closer analysis, I think that I actually hit something. It's the only part that is missing, and there are two black marks at that spot (none of the other bits were marked, other than grated by tar....)
Heaven knows where to track down a replacement - not exactly a common machine. Going to take some time to clear the skidmarks out of the leathers.....
