Yes, it's called wasted spark. Your 1150 works the same way. You can swap the plug wires around and it will still run.

The Colt is a knockoff of a Myford. The cross-slide nut seems to be worn hence the play in the handwheel. There is no quick fix other than to make a new nut. Your dials seem to be in thousands of an inch, if so get used to converting inches to mm and vice-virsa. If you get stuck, drop me a pm...
