    Luggage rack bolt hole oval

Be careful drilling those too big. May just result in the back end snapping off here.

    Luggage rack bolt hole oval

OK, just looked at the parts fiche. That entire subframe is Aluminium. It would appear from the photos that those holes go all the way through. If they do, I would get a (approx) 6mm piece of stainless, drill and tap the appropriate holes, and place it below the subframe, as per the green...

    Luggage rack bolt hole oval

Looks like aluminium to me, making welding a nut onto it impossible.

Is that subframe steel or Aluminium?

    Luggage rack bolt hole oval

If you were to remove the minimum of material from the hole, you wouldn't be able to use a Helicoil, but you could fit a Timesert, which is basically a solid tube with internal and external threads. You could then use the original bolt. Ditto for the other hole. Unfortunately is does little...

    X Challenge Servicing

I have a client that has a good instrument cluster available. I think he wanted R4.5k.for it though. What is yours doing/not doing? They are repairable, within reason.

    Luggage rack bolt hole oval

It is repairable, and there are e few options. 1: Remove the subframe and mount it in a milling machine. Then "drill" out the oval hole with an endmill. Retired and re-assemble 2. Use a carbide bur in a Dremil and slowly (and carefully) grind away the remaining threaded portion, which would...

    Bearing failure

Correct. Earliest F800GS was 2008 Bearing failure on startup ... I don't think so. Maybe it was on "wake-up". Like he fell off, was knocked senseless with the bike lying on its side idling. When he woke up the bearings were buggered. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

A day in the workshop ...

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: No such luck, @Rufus115. This bike came in because the motor was rattling and had no oil pressure. So it's getting a mini rebuild, with new rings and big-end bearings, and an oil pump check-over. Everything has to be disassembled anyway, so will just do the repair...

Oops of the week! What happens when you try to rebuild a motor without a torque wrench. And yes, that is a head bolt/stud.

Question regarding replacing bearings in a car

That hole is usually to feed the "squirt hole" on some conrods. The squirt hole sprays a jet of oil up and under the piston skirt. Motors like the old Ford Kent engine used squirt holes.

fitting wheels without the air pressure sensor ; offroad set.

You will get a flashing yellow triangle on the cluster. Yes, when you put your road wheels back the sensors will be picked up automatically. Why not get a set of 2nd hand sensors and fit them to the offroad wheels? The Aircooled models allow for "Set A" and "Set B" wheels, so you will always...

    Mogas's 1150GSA

 Quite honestly, the 1150 is probably one of the most tuneable models there is. The older/high mileage bikes suffer from throttle body wear which cause them to run lean as they will be sucking excess air, something a Boosterplug will NOT cure. Fitting a "Ticker Killer" likewise...
