FWIW, the batteries are not spot welded to the circuit board. They are soldered onto/into the board. The trick is to break the tab off the top of the battery, carefully lift that side of the battery just enough to get a very thin blade screwdriver into the gap, and then breaking the lower tab...

Yes, I normally just lean the bike over a little, as though it has a sidestand on the RHS. That is more than enough to get the cover off without losing the oil.
