    Service your swingarm

Busy with mine now. The swingarm bolt came out easy peasy but I can see the pivot bolt is going to keep me occupied a while  :sip:

PARAMEDICS look for ICE tag where??

Depending on the location, a medical aid card (demanding private healthcare) isn't always the best option. Many small towns don't have a private hospital, and those that do may not have a trauma facility. In these cases, government hospitals are your best (and sometimes only) option. In the...

    Side Bets for the Experts

Valve stem seals have sweet F all to do with compression. REALLY, okes - if you don't have even the basic knowledge, try to refrain from muddying the waters by dispensing crap advice. And valves don't just "touch" a piston, especially at 10000 rpm. If there's contact, you should probably inspect...

    XR125 Idling issue

Make sure you're not sucking air somewhere. Check both intake manifold (perished rubber or O-ring etc) and (surprisingly) exhaust header nuts.

how to pack onto bike for long trip

My bike looks just like yours, unpacking and reloading is a pain in the ass. I'm saving up for a speedpack wide. Have a mate who uses one and it's like night and day in terms of efficiency. Also light weight, soft luggage but with an internal frame, so no need for racks

Girl Mechanic - BMW Dakar - Help!

Trailer it to Silverton to see if there is CO in the water, which will indicate a blown gasket (cylinder to water jacket.  I'm assuming there's no oil in the water or vice versa). All you okes  recommending easy outs obviously don't use them for a living.  They're crap with a capital K. Hazet or...

    Neat Swedish tyre changing tool

There's an American knock-off called Baja no pinch tool. They reckon they have their international shipping sorted. If there's enough interest I'll approach them re a bulk shipment to get costs down? Man, the exchange rate is a killer

Who took all the Mitas E07s?

Someone told me this weekend that the 130 wears out much quicker than the 140, which could explain the difference in mileage experienced. Any merit to this? Different compound or construction?

Who took all the Mitas E07s?

No Buddy, I haven't had the pleasure of meeting the gent, and i'm playing the ball, not the man. Allow me to answer less flippantly, then. I vary pressures anything between 1.2 bar in deep sand to 2.2 bar on tar (which I avoid if possible). I ride one up, 85kg, with 20kg max luggage, the KLR...

Who took all the Mitas E07s?

The 130 and 140 are totally different in construction, not only in width. The 140 fits the klr just fine, both old and new shape. 15000 on ONE tyre? Dude, my bike spends its life in the karoo. If I was going to ride like that I'd buy a vuka. Tyre pressures depend on the conditions. Asking what...

Who took all the Mitas E07s?

That's strange - Neither I nor my riding buddy can get more than 5000km from the E07, both riding KLR. We've switched to the Heidenau 140/80, have more than 3000km on them and the tyres don't look like they're even half life yet. Never putting a mitas on again

    Rescued..........thanks Piston Pete

It's probably best to bypass all those safety switches anyway. At least one of them is guaranteed to leave you stuck somewhere one day, with the same symptoms

Why do my brakes squeak? AAARGH!

It's often the back of the pad vibrating on the brake piston that causes the noise, especially when fitting new pads to a well-used disc. When I was a grease monkey in the 80's we used to glue gasket paper to the steel pad backing. It lasts long enough for the pads to bed in and eliminated the...

    Oudtshoorn - front wheel hub

Hi Dogs Recently hooked up with a newby in town (actually, he farms just outta town past the proef plaas). His bike needs a bit of ammo spent on it and he doesn't have much to spare at this stage. I've given him Doc KLR's number for an Eagle Mike kit, his chain's making a racket...but in the...
