    Stunning!!

I cycled from Punta Arenas to Puerto Montt in the mid 90-ties. Absolutely stunning! But I gather that in the meantime lots of it has been tarred. But still an adventure for sure

    Ouberg Pass....

From the police station to Sani summit is about 8 km. Both Sani and De Hel aren't difficult after maintenance work but can be pretty rough at times, esp. after heavy rains. De Hel hasn't any tight switchbacks as Sani.

    Ouberg Pass....

The road conditions of Sani are sometimes good, when just maintained and rough at times. You never know before you're not there. Depending on the weather conditions can change quickly. I managed to escort a visitor from Germany up the pass with his 1150 ADV and lots of luggage. Although..... -...

    Best/good/recommended doggy carrier

I met this guy in OZ. His dog was attached to the rail so not to fall down. When the guy made a break, he'd hitch the dog on a longer leash so he could jump down and move around. Of course doggy looked after the bike when his boss was in the pub :p

A quickie to Turkey and Romania

Yeah, it sure is a fascinating part of the world. Lots of historical sites and a grand landscape. Often reminds me of SA. Last time I was there I could only cross the mountains from south to north on the main roads. Too much snow. So I had to return to check the mountain pistes ;o)

A quickie to Turkey and Romania

Finally part 4 For the first time I was happy to be woken up by the call of the muezzin at 5 am. So I managed to reach the „Sunrise point“ before sunup. Riding a bike also allowed me to filter through the early traffic. It wasn't main season, but there were quite some tourists on their way...

A quickie to Turkey and Romania

Part 3 After a hearty breakfast I'm of to the Euphrates canyon, known as the „Dark Canyon“ at Kemaliye. The road passes through a beautifully coloured landscape, reminding me of the US Badlands. Finally I arrive at the turn-off to the canyon. The Euphrates greenish, deep down...

A quickie to Turkey and Romania

Part 2 Fortunately the mountains were not as touristic as Uzungöl at all. Soon the surface changed from tarmac to gravel. It was fascinating to find the small villages tucked away in the bundus. The roads were usually in a good condition and, since it was dry, easy to ride. After crossing...

A quickie to Turkey and Romania

Turkey 09/2023 Part 1 After an enjoyable trip around South Africa in April/May this year (Back to the Roots) there were still some open issues on my bucket list for Turkey. I had spent a couple of weeks in Turkey 2016 and done a lot of kms, but the higher mountain roads were at that time...

'n Draai in die Klein Karoo - terug Kaaptoe

Lekker RR. Baaie dankie! To me SA is the best country for motorcycling. There's no there country that offers such a variety of beautiful landscapes - and such nice stop-over places like padstal, restaurants, B&B's etc. And of course, what is most important, friendly people
