Just a thought that popped to mind for the OP. Check that the studs holding the header pipes to the head aren't loose (but don't strip them by trying to overtighten). Years ago I had them come a little loose on the front cylinder on the XRV750, causing a little bit of "flutter" / leakage. Can...

I've heard that it's a moerofo job to get to the valves on those 700 motors.

just dump the helmet into a bath and wash with baby shampoo when it needs it. Easy to clean, and they dry pretty quickly to. Sponge in the lining seems last longer too - it seems to perish with sweat after a while

Don't forget about the old school piston porting...! Ala the old lambretta's. Port timing was determined by the lenght of the piston skirt. Old school vespa's also used rotary valves. I would think that out of all of the options......the reeds are the simplest. KISS principle..... I think...

Interesting. Ducati SA have been terrible to deal with for years. So much so, that many of us simply bring in needed parts from overseas. I'm still waiting for an indicator from them that I ordered about 10 years ago.....
