    Travelling light necessities...

When it comes to packing light a good starting point for me was hiking. I've been hiking for most of my life and you very quickly learn what works and what doesn't. Search for 5 day tent hike gear lists. You'll basically find 3 "groups". Luxury, lightweight, and ultralight. For bike camping...

Construction drawings of a beautiful old bike

Digging up a bit of a grave here, but I'm very keen on the whole locally designed and built motorcycle idea. I has mad CAD skillz*, and would love to apply them to something like this. This makes me think of "Local Motors" over in the states. *About 10 years exp as a mechanical draughtsman in...

    Home built dessert bike!

Not sure if this is the correct thread. So, this guy get's stuck in the dessert in his car, disassembles it, re-builts it into a bike and rides out. RESPECT. https://hackaday.com/2012/05/21/man-stranded-in-the-desert-makes-a-motorcycle-from-his-broken-car/

    Bike License Test Speed?

OK, thanks guys. I was also under the impression that the speed should be around 25 kph. Our tenant did his at 25 and got failed for riding too fast. I called BS when he told me, but his buddy confirmed. Do you think one can appeal to the station commandant in a case like this?

    Bike License Test Speed?

Quick question. What is the maximum speed that one may travel at during the yard test for a bike license (moped license)? Our tenant went to do his today and failed because he went as fast as his instructor taught him to go, which was too fast, apparently. BTW, it was slower than the speed a...

    450's en die langpad?

I don't know. I quite like the smaller capacity motors. I also can't see any reason, other than frame with luggage, why you can't do long distance. Hell, have a look at the Dakar. Yes, the top guys' bikes gets serviced after every stage, but what about the privateers. Those motors must be...

    dakar coverage on SS2

I'm actually pulling the 26' Dakar highlights from usenet. I get a mix of Eurosport and SBS One. I find the Eurosport commentator a bit annoying and their sound is all farked. It's as if the actual sound is turned down like in a dub and the music and commentary is the same volume. Can hardly...

What does the inside of your Garage at home look like??

OK, ek's uiteindelik deur die hele fret. Ek is sommer nou erg moedeloos. Nevermind die mooi grudges, maar die bikes. Hel ouens, party van julle het darem net hopeloos te veel geld as mens kyk na al die speelgoed wat in julle grotte staan. Oh well, ek is ten minste nou ge-moetiveerd om iets aan...

    DR600/650 Fuel Tank wanted

OK, did some research and found that the DR600 or DR650, up until 1990, fuel tank should be a perfect fit on my GN250 project bike. Does anyone have a spare one lying around, or know where I might find one? Scratches, dents, crappy paint scheme no problem.

Cutting it can work, but it sound like more trouble than it's worth.  MMM, maybe my ass is just itching again.

    Rebuild: '92 GN250 to become SP250

Quick question.  Does anyone know of a larger fuel tank that will fit the GN250?  8 liters is just not enough for decent traveling.

Front or rear.  The front still looks OK, but yes, the rear is seriously moeg.

Don't you mean the KDX 400?  KDX 200's came out with a mono shock.  But, ja, definitely looking at lifting the rear a bit.

    Rebuild: '92 GN250 to become SP250

Quick update. Got the motor out this evening.  Thanks for the helping hand Bergie.  :thumleft: :thumleft:  Decided not to spend to much time on the bike tonight, feeling a bit under the weather and the garage is very cold. Here's the engine in all its glory.  Quite a couple of wires still...

    Rebuild: '92 GN250 to become SP250

I like the pannier mount idea.  Thanks Louis en Bergie. I've got a couple of pieces of rubber lying on my garage floor.  Vesconite or HDPE can work.  Bergie, gaan jy my help by die werk met dit?  Jy weet mos hoe. I was thinking about re-threading.  Seems to be the easiest and maybe the...

    Rebuild: '92 GN250 to become SP250

OK, fodie time. Decided to climb in tonight and see how far I got in about two hours (wife watches two shows on TV and, as per usual, no man is allowed to even breath in the same room for that time). So, got stuck in and removed handlebar, airbox, rear shocks, rear wheel and other bit and...
