This is what a sweater looks like that went through the chain

I think it's time to invest in proper luggage with external storage pouch for such things.

This is what a sweater looks like that went through the chain

I just had to do a bit of sewing on the mudguard.. When the sweater got pulled in, it yanked the mudguard downwards such that it tore and ended up on the inside of the hub. Didn't see this at first, so 100 km later I saw it had worn down the hub paint and even some metal 😢

    Clutch cable roadside repair?

On town or highway, after 2nd, I usually always shift up clutchless. Down less so, but it's very doable, you just have to get the revs up, then close the throttle quickly and kick down, no problem. F800GS (2009).

This is what a sweater looks like that went through the chain

Yep, just a lot of sweater-gunk between the chain and sprocket, but looks like it is breaking up.

This is what a sweater looks like that went through the chain

Only had my tools strapped on the back, was rally raiding my way up to Still Bay from CT. Got too hot and strapped sweater to the toolbag. Seen here practising my pose for the robots... Reckon I'll make a few bucks? My friend says I need a sign reading: "ANC se MSP".

I just discovered a hidden storage compartment (800GS)

Am I the only one who didn't get the memo...? 🤔 While prepping my bike for a trip, I just discovered this little storage compartment in the license plate extension...

    Battery not charging

Yep. You can't just get the stator on its own.

    Battery not charging

Just to wrap this one up... The stator was fried, and so was the regulator. Had the stator rewound, replaced regulator + gasket & labour: R5,280. IIRC BMW wanted R16,000 to replace the entire alternator/magneto component.

F800GS heated grip broken, stuck with repair

I see online that an aftermarket one like that is just the rubber grip itself, not including the wiring and element. It looks like I can cut off the old rubber and pull the new grip over the element. BTW: BMW just quoted me R1655 for the whole grip assembly.

What is the price for a lefthand grip, and do you have stock?

F800GS heated grip broken, stuck with repair

The lefthand heated grip on my 2009 F800GS stopped working. Apparently, it's a thing with the lefthand grip. I followed this excellent repair thread on AdvRider, but now that I've got the wiring exposed (see pic) , I'm stumped. Neither of the soldered joints are loose. There is conductivity...

    Lithium motorcycle battery

I'll measure the stator phases. How would I test the regulator to know if it is damaged?

    Lithium motorcycle battery

I got this old-school charger on Takealot. It's so basic, it doesn't even have a power LED! But charged my Poweroad from 10.5 to 12.9V in 3 hours. Now I just have to figure out the stator and/or regulator issue, which has me stumped, since the voltage across the battery actually does increase...

    Battery not charging

OK, now I'm stumped. I made sure the battery was fully charged with the Optimate. Then I started the bike and measured the voltage across the terminals - when I increase the RPM, the voltage goes up. At idle, there's no voltage increase, but it goes to charging voltage (> 14 V) at around 4000 -...
